DC Metro Area Women in GIS

Area covered:   DC Metropolitan Area, including Northern Virginia, and several Maryland Counties. Currently also includes members in Baltimore and the surrounding areas, although a spin-off group may be forming soon.

Activities:  Social events, networking, and collaboration with other related groups in the area to advocate for women in GIS. Quarterly meetings, plus others as they arise.

Area covered:  Middle Tennessee region, including the greater Nashville area and the cities of Murfreesboro and Franklin.

Washington State Women in GIS and Technology

WiGIS Liaison(s):  Tonya Kauhi     

Area covered:  Primarily Puget Sound area, but women in GIS welcome from anywhere in Washington State

Activities:  The Washington Women in GIS and Technology (WWGT) group empowers women to learn, teach, and promote GIS and technology.  The WWGT group was created for Washington women working in GIS and technology to meet, network, brainstorm and learn from one another.  WWGT’s mission is to further efforts of women in GIS and technology professions in Washington State through the following strategies:

  • Meet monthly to engage in networking, educational and social opportunities.
  • Provide mentoring and career support through meeting topics and one on one member and professional connections.
  • Further skills development with meeting activities such as lightning talks, software mini trainings, tips and tricks and business skills presentations.
  • Support the education of GIS and technology through volunteering, presentations and teaching technical in schools and to community groups.
